Николай Степанович Гумилёв.
Перевод стихотворения Гиена на английский язык.

Hyena

Over the reeds of the tardy Nile,
Where only butterflies and birds
Are found, hides a forgotten tomb
Of a culpable but enchanting queen.

The nightly mist carries its own deceit,
The moon rises, as a sinful siren,
A pale fog streaks through,
And from a cave, skulks a hyena.

Its groans are ireful and gnarly,
Its eyes are baleful and dismal,
And horrid are the menacing teeth
On the rose-pink marble of the tomb.

“Behold, Moon, enamoured with madmen,
Behold, Stars, you lean apparitions,
And the dark Nile, lord of soundless waters,
And butterflies, and birds and plants.

Behold, all, how my fur bristles,
How the eyes twinkle viciously.
Is it not true, that I’m also a queen
As that one, who sleeps under these stones?
