Михаил Юрьевич Лермонтов. I Go out Alone on the Flint Road I go out alone on the flint road In the deep mist glimmering afar. Silent night... The desert hears to God And the star is speaking to the star. All the skies are beautiful and solemn. Earth is sleeping in the glow of blue. Why it is so hard? Am I regretting? Or maybe I dream of something new? I don't care at all about the future, From the past I have nothing to keep. What I want is only peace and freedom, And oblivion, to fall asleep, But not with that slumber in the grave... I would like to have eternal rest, When my chest would be heaved with soft breath, With life’s powers dozing in my breast. Nights and days my hearing would be nursed With sweet songs of love spreading around, And above the dark oak would be leaned, Rustling with green leaves with gentle sound.
